18th-Century New England Village Historic Deerfield Inc., founded in 1952, is an outdoor museum that interprets the history and culture of early New England and the Connecticut River Valley. Visitors can tour twelve carefully-preserved antique houses dating from 1730 to 1850, and explore world-class collections of regional furniture, silver, textiles and other decorative arts on display in the authentic period houses and in the Flynt Center of Early New England Life, a state-of-the-art museum facility featuring exhibitions and a visible storage area. Hours are 9:30am to 4:30pm, cost is $18 and if AAA member it is $15.30 per person
Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory and Gardens The 8,000-square foot conservatory houses nearly 4,000 native and tropical butterflies year round. It is also home to many plants and a pond with a small waterfall and brilliantly colored Japanese carp, called koi. Visitors are delighted with the many different varieties of butterflies swooping gracefully amidst the plants and flowers. Stand still and perhaps a butterfly will gently descend and land on your shoulder, thinking that maybe you are a flower for it to taste. We can't guarantee visitors the rare delight of a butterfly landing on them; we just want everyone to enjoy the peace and tranquility that exists with the butterflies inside this glass house. Hours are 9am to 5pm, cost is $16 and Senior over 62 $14 per person
For those wishing to carpool to the event, we will be meeting at the "Stop and Shop in Pembroke at 8:00 AM with an expected arrival time of about 11:00 AM or about 3 hours. We can get a snack at Magic Wings or go out to supper at a local restaurant.
Please email the trip leader if you plan to attend.
